The New Cobra screen reader from Baum with a difference.
Cobra is about to set a revolutionary new standard in IT-accessibility solutions in Windows for blind and visually impaired people. Cobra simplifies Windows Vista and XP when using speech or Braille bringing together all the functions of modern screen readers in a future-proof package. It can cleverly differentiate between what the user wants and doesn’t want and direct that information to the speech output, Braille display or both.
COBRA Major Features:
Screen OCR: Cobra will read embedded text in PDF files, Java script, flash and bitmaps and other normally unreadable files, unlabeled graphics in new programs, screenshots and graphics on web pages. Security codes on web pages (known as Captca) cannot be recognised by COBRA: They cannot be scanned by the OCR engine.
The acoustic egg-timer gives an audible indication of time lapsed between operations.
Choice of 2 modes to read a screen.
The line mode where the whole line is presented on the Braille line.
The element mode: Presents only one element at one time but with all available information.
You can see the type of the selected element, its hotkeys, where it comes in a list i.e. (2 of 9) etc.
You can select these two modes for focus tracking when you navigate around the screen.
Cobra screen reader can browse a live screen without losing focus.
When using Braille displays the display can be split into up to 3 different sections. This facility is very useful for telephonists needing to access more than one program at the same time and especially users of Microsoft Excel.
Multibraille-Support: Run more than one Braille display at one time. Great for training.

Mobile Phone Monitor: Mobile phones connected to the PC that run “Talks Aid” (an installed TBI) can be used with COBRA. MPM shows the display of the phone and you can enter text from the PC and send it to the phone. It is easy to write SMS using your normal PC keyboard, read them, configure your phone etc. MPM for phones with Mobile Speak will come soon. TBI is the Talks Braille Interface, the free BAUM Braille driver for Talks Symbian series 60 phones.
Central text modules: COBRA has central text modules. They can be inserted in every edit line or multiline edit file. To add text into this module simply select it, put it onto the Windows clipboard and put the text into the COBRA text module.
Easy scripting interface. COBRA collects all screen data via different sources (graphic driver, MSAA, Java, DOM e.g.) the script retrieves this via one interface.
Magnification is coming soon and will have features like font smoothing & rendering and graphic smoothing.
